Conceptual Architectural Student Project

Exposed pipes are seen around the world. We studied examples like the Centre Pompidou and public spaces where pipes are not just functional but also shape movement and interaction. In cold climates they are intentionally lifted from ground to avoid freezing, but most of the cases are concept designs.
These cases showed us that infrastructure can add playfulness to the city, turning ordinary elements into engaging experiences. Inspired by these views, we integrated exposed pipes to create a more dynamic and interactive environment, encouraging people to see the city as a space for exploration and play.
We researched how exposed pipes have been used in urban spaces before incorporating them into our design.
In colder climates, sometimes lifting the plumbing is necessary due to freezing hazard.
We also studied examples like the Centre Pompidou and public spaces where pipes are not just functional but also shape movement and interaction. These cases showed us that infrastructure can add playfulness to the city, turning ordinary elements into engaging experiences.
Inspired by this, we integrated exposed pipes to create a more dynamic and interactive environment, encouraging people to see the city as a space for exploration and play.

In line with our concept, water and natural gas pipelines, which are typically expected to be underground, were brought to the surface, making them visible and capable of influencing the environment.
It was envisioned that geothermal water, assumed to be hot, along with municipal water, assumed to be cold, and purified water from the site, would be used in limited amounts for climate control in both buildings and open spaces. Additionally, these pipelines would serve the fundamental needs of the surrounding structures.

As its name "Lusoria" suggests, this is a utopian project. Lusoria as a word refers to "a playful mood" in latin.
At its core, it aims to create a city open to play, while also satirizing conventional systems and cultural taboos.
Pipeline connections were designed to link both sides, ensuring continuity within the project area. Inspired by the identity of the Porsuk River, its course was altered with sharp 90-degree angles, widening its span, while the surrounding green areas were kept sloped.
